- About the Role:
- We are looking for a skilled and proactive Kong Mesh Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will help design, implement, and manage our Kong Mesh (based on Kuma) service mesh infrastructure, supporting secure, scalable, and observable communication between microservices. You'll work closely with DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams to enable service discovery, zero-trust security, and traffic control across distributed systems.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and manage Kong Mesh to support service-to-service communication within a Kubernetes and/or hybrid environment.
- Configure and maintain features such as mTLS, traffic routing, circuit breakers, rate limiting, and observability.
- Collaborate with developers and SREs to onboard applications onto the service mesh.
- Automate service mesh deployments and configurations using CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Monitor mesh performance, troubleshoot issues, and tune configurations for optimal performance.
- Ensure secure and consistent communication between microservices using mesh policies.
- Document configurations, workflows, and best practices for team and organizational use.
- Requirements:
- Must-Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform/infrastructure roles.
- Hands-on experience with Kong Mesh (or other service mesh solutions like Istio, Linkerd, Kuma).
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes, Envoy proxy, and container orchestration concepts.
- Experience with microservices architecture and network security (mTLS, RBAC).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Helm.
- Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, or Go).
